Army Logic I
(Only in the Army!!)

January 1965 was a foul winter.
I was on a basic radio course at Catterick and, because I was re-enlistment
was allowed to live out in a married pad. My transport was a MK2 Consul.
There has been massive snow fall overnight, the country is at a stand-still
all bus and train services suspended. Coming out of the house I find my
car under about 8 ft of snow. No chance to dig it out in time, so leg it
to the bus stop. No good, all bus services cancelled. Never mind, walk
to the barracks freezing my bollocks off, only four miles ! On the way,
taking a short cut, I met the CSM in Mons Lines, still one mile to go.
"Forget the works parade" he says, "come with me to the office".
I was set to work, cleaning out stoves and lighting fires until the rest
of the troops arrived to start work. later that morning I have to front
up at the OC's office. I have been charged with missing the works parade
! It got worse, when I explained all of the above, and the CSM backed me
up, the OC's comment - "Guilty as charged, if you know it is going to snow
heavily and your car will be buried, you should leave home earlier !, seven
days CB"
