The Bishopric
By James Robinson

I was with an ad hoc recce troop from  4th RTR. We came down from Sharjha (then just a spot on the Gulf), a week in  Little Aden then up to Themuir base camp. Six of us went up the wadi (3 scout cars) and secured a DZ for 22 SAS. We were under rifle fire all day, the SAS came in and set out at last light, it really came as no surprise that it all  went wrong. We stayed up the wadis for about another ten days.

One day we  suddenly noticed 45 Commando had filled a huge inflatable with water, and out troop leader decided we could go and bath in it. Within 5 mins a CSM  arrived, we were all in bare buff and he started to bollock me, being the  coward I was I pointed out the troop leader and poor old Mr. Rowlands was read  his life history in front of us all. It really was not his fault, we had been  drifting about getting feed and watered by 1RHA/East Anglians even the FNL  and we had not washed for all that time. My KD was actually stuck to me, and  remember water was wanted by our scout cars just as much as us. Those were the days.
