Salalah Song
sent in by

The song  relates to the detachment at Salalah in the seventies, and probably was an RAF regiment song. I was there as RAF Catering in 73, and remember we used to sing it at the monthly "ma Salaam" (farewell)dos.

Now I worked at MOD Where they’re always drinking tea,
 And work from nine to five, five days a week;
But records got my number Now I’m in bloody lumber
Off to sunny Dhofar with the sheik.
Chorus
Oh the Adu is a rebel
And he lives up in the Jebel
Always playing with his RCL
But if the RA hack it
They’ll get their guns on bracket
And they’ll blow the fucking Adu all to hell

The flying camel gets you there
 Very yimkin, in a square
Of old rusty barrels, piled up bits of tin.;
Not a very welcome mat
“Latest Models” this and that
And painted there; “All this and sport thrown in”.

Then the bloody siren sounds,
We have to hide out under ground
Just to dodge the bits of rocket flying past
But if you can’t find a hole
Try to make just like a mole
Or you’ll get a bit of shrapnel up your arse.

Situated on the plain,
Exposed to sun and rain,
Are the hedgehogs great big holes dug in the ground
Where the Rockapes lob their bombs
And the Gimpies sing their songs
When the ZB finds a contact moving round.

Now when your tour is done
And you’re off back home to mum
With your panic tan, your Sieko and shemak;
Forget this promised land,
That love affair with your right hand
Or you’ll soon be volunteering to come back.
