Well here we are having a well earned rest after our latest operations supporting the infantry in the fight against the terrorists. The Anchor ale was going down great in the Charwalla"s although I was on guard duty, [ it being a tented camp the ale was easily passed through to me.] Near the end of the night the guard commander Sergeant [Mary] Marsh decided it was time to kick everybody out, let us say it did not go down very well with the now well sloshed gunners me included.
After about 20 minutes trying to empty the beer tent Sergeant Marsh decided to call out the guard,[ I pulled myself together and turned out with the rest of them]. Things went from bad to worse, by this time the duty officer had arrived and ordered that all the drinkers to be placed under close arrest. There was no facilities for the number of gunners round about twenty I recall to be held [this was a tented camp remember] so the duty driver was called out to take the prisoners to Ipoh about eighteen miles away were the infantry had a big camp and guardroom to hold this number of prisoners.
Well I and the rest of the guard duly loaded them up and proceeded to Ipoh with difficulty I may add-On arrival at Ipoh the prisoners dismounted from the truck and proceeded to be booked into the guardroom, all except Dave Mcgrouther who jumped into the massive monsoon drain to hide, after a while up staggers Ciggy [scouse] Seddon undoes his flies and proceeds to relieve himself over the spot were Mcgrouther is hiding. A big shout of anguish came from the drain and up rose Mac swearing and soaking wet, with urine running down his face ciggy looked at him and said his immortal words" have you got a ciggy"..
