Conclusions & Thanks
I
would like to express my sincere thanks to all those who helped me. Martin
Spirit and James Paul, the web masters of
Britain's
Small Wars, my good friend Larry for his encouragement, my friend Mike
for helping a neophyte, James Robinson
for contributing the Egypt page, Mark
Dunn who helped Martin with the graphics and Arthur Owen who proof
read the web page and my loving wife for her patience.
We apologize
if any group or fighting unit out has been left out. All who served in
that putrid festering Hellhole deserve full coverage. All the information
that I could get my hands on at this time, is here, but any information,
stories and historical facts that are forwarded to this web site will come
up as a welcome addition in the near future.
This
web-site would like to take time out to offer our thanks and appreciation
for their hard work, to the following persons, who without their help,
this medal campaign would never have got off the ground.
Colonel
"Pip" Newton
The late
Colonel Newton, one of the first persons to become involved in the medal
issue. and to question why no medal was awarded for Active
Service during the "Emergency of 1951-54" This man set the ball rolling,
and used his considerable influence to interview senior Military officers
in an effort to find out the truth. What he did find out has caused
nightmares for those who were elected to parliament and in the ranks of
those in power in the MoD. He is sadly missed, and his work
on the medal issue is greatly appreciated by all Suez Canal Zone Veterans.
Lt.
Col. Ashley Tinson
Colonel
Tinson, who served in the British Army with the KOYLI in places like Kenya,
has given freely, of his time and valuable information from
his considerable knowledge about medals. He is the author of what
could be called a standard text on medals "Medals will be worn",
and over the years has been consulted by such organizations as
the Royal British Legion. Colonel Tinson has for a number of years
accompanied all the delegations to Parliament, for meetings with
those MP's involved with the Defence Ministry, and gave valuable informational
support, to those involved in these meeting. Although not a Suez
Canal Zone Veteran, he has never hesitated in support of our cause.
Sir, we at this web site, on behalf of the Veterans of the Suez Canal Zone
Emergency will be forever grateful for what you have done for us.
Cyril
Blackburn
Cyril,
perhaps more than anyone else, worked in the background, over the past
few years digging into records, spending hours at a time listing
casualties, getting background information on all those involved in the
decisions re the Award of a medal. Cyril, who is a Canal Zone
Veteran, having served with the R.E.M.E. during the Emergency, has
attended the various meetings with MP's to discuss the medal issue.
This man has worked hard for the Canal Zone Vets and has written articles
about the medal issue in such Magazines as the Soldier,
Magazine and Medal News. Cyril, on behalf of those who served during
the Emergency in the Canal Zone, our sincere thanks for everything you
have done for us
Kindest
regards.
