Served in Suez from
July 1953 to Jan 1955. Can't say that I liked it
out there, the locals wanted to use us for target practice...that
is when our backs where turned. Was shot at driving through El Kirsh one day, it was the only time I was glad to see the Red Caps appear as if from nowhere....chased the buggers away. Looking for two army pals.... Jim Pickering from Stafford....and Pete Zipfell from the south of England. Does anyone remember them? We served in C-Troop, Sgt/Major Newel and Micheal Sprague our Troop Officer, who both looked after our welfare...Anybody else out there who remembers me, please get in touch.. |

As a fully paid-up Grumpy Old Man I can't understand
why we never complained about anything, you know, little
things like food, accommodation, hygiene (remember the joys of sitting on the plank in the DTLs?) There again, there is plenty to talk about when I meet an old mate I'm still in touch with. |

What a friendly
place it was '51 to '54; the food was good, so the bedbugs said
and all the flies agreed, and when the time came for me to leave I
did so at great speed. It was a prison for so many guys and that really was a shame, but I was one of the lucky ones, I played the waterpolo game. |

The Royal Navy, especially the MED
Fleet including the 2nd Frigate Squadron spent
months doing 'Canal Patrol', later the 6th Frigate
Squadron , the 'Undine' was actively involved in the '56 fiasco. |
