'The Light Brigade"
Carriers in Korea

This section is devoted to the effort of the Fleet Air Arm and RN Carriers 'The Light Brigade' during the Korean War. Despite being classed as light fleet carriers, the RN aircraft carriers regularly outperformed the larger American carriers and had an impressive record of serviceability and sortie rate throughout the Korean War. This section provides a broad outline of the carriers tours of duty and the conditions they encountered as well as the exploits of their pilots. It does not chronicle every strike carried out by every aircraft. It should also be noted that during HMS Oceans first tour, one of her pilots became the only pilot of a Piston Engined aircraft to shoot down a jet-engined aircraft, a MiG-15.
