Pushing
through the infamous berns ( The ineffective Iraq defensive barrier of
30 foot high sand walls on the Saudi / Iraq border )and driving for 3 hours
without seeing any enemy activity, we came across the first signs of resistance
that the forward elements of our advance had encountered and eliminated.
It was a very relaxed group of British squadies, as if on a sight seeing
day trip, that inspected a light AA 23mm Gun position, so relaxed I wasn't
even carrying a weapon, just my Kodak camera for personal protection against
the republican guard ! Our DPM NBC suits, protection against chemical attack,
standing out in stark contrast to our desert environment |
