Ted Bates' Royal Navy Service I joined the Royal Navy as a boy rating in the latter stages of World War Two. This was after experiencing the very heavy bombing of my home town of Kingston upon Hull in Yorkshire. My brother Frank and sister Mary were already serving in the Royal Navy. Following training I spent two years and one month in the Far East and then returned to the UK and was married at the age of twenty-one. (My wife Mavis was eighteen) Later I volunteered for the Royal Fleet Reserve and during the Korean War I was recalled to active service and sent out once more to the Far East , thus clocking up another fourteen months in that area. These pages reflect some of the events of those years. I am very proud to have worn the same uniform as hundreds of thousands of gallant men, many thousands of whom gave their lives for King and Country. I dedicate these pages to them and I do hope that they might prove of interest to the site's visitors."
